This is a summer research program for undergraduate students who are interested in a career in environmental biology, ecology, or
plant biology.
· Students will work in a research lab on the West Virginia
University campus for 10 weeks (May 25 - July 31) under the guidance of a WVU professor and a graduate student mentor.
· Research will focus on some aspect of environmental biology and include laboratory and field projects in forest ecology, plant biology,
physiology, genomics or molecular biology.
· Students will receive
a $4500 stipend, room and board in a dorm on the WVU campus, and a travel allowance for travel to and from WVU for their 10 weeks
of work.
· The program is open to sophomore and junior undergraduate students
(at the time of application) majoring in biology, geography, plant science or related disciplines. Applicants should have at least
a 3.0 GPA.
· A seminar class will be held once a week that students will
be required to attend for the 10 week period.
· Mentors include WVU faculty
from Biology, Geology and Geography, Forestry, and Plant and Soil Science. Here is a list of participating REU faculty.
· Students will be expected to present their research findings in the form of a poster presentation at an REU Symposium which will be
held at the end of the 10 week program.
· REU students will under no circumstances
be allowed to have another job or take other classes during their research experience.
